Exciting Spring: Dr. Spina named “Best Dentist” in MainLine Magazine and ICOI Implant Fellow

I am excited that I have once again been named “Best Dentist” by MainLine Magazine in 2013. I am always humbled that my patients would take the time and effort to nominate and vote for me. Thank you!

As many of you know, I have been finishing my advanced training in implant surgery and prosthetics at Columbia University School of Dental Medicine. I am so excited to report that I have graduated from the program and have been named a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology. I am one of only a few dentist in the area to have this credential and I am excited to bring this knowledge and skill to my practice.

Dr. Joseph Spina named “Top Dentist”

Thank you ALL for your votes and it is an honor to once again be named “Top Dentist” in Main Line Today Magazine and Suburban Life Magazine. My team and I appreciate the support and are excited that our patients feel so highly about our work. Thank you.

Dental Radiographs (x-rays)

The use of dental radiographs (x-rays) has been used for many years as the gold standard for diagnosis and treatment of dental disease. There have been several news reports about dental x-rays recently, and I wanted to clarify the procedures and protocols we use to take dental x-rays.

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health issues a Fact Sheet about amalgam (silver) fillings

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has issued a Fact Sheet about amalgam (silver) fillings that presents patients with the facts and the risks associated with mercury containing fillings. All dentists who practice in Philadelphia County that still place amalgam (silver) fillings must distribute this form to their patients. I have included the form below for your information.
As you know, we are a mercury free practice. We do not place any silver (amalgam) restorations. We used either composite or porcelain materials

1000 Friends Campaign on Facebook.com

The Children’s Heart Foundation is a great organization the goal of which is “to bring health, hope and happiness to children impacted by congenital heart defects, the number one birth defect in the United States. CHF accomplishes this goal by funding the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects.” Recently, we have decided to promote awareness about this organization through what we have called the 1000 Friends Campaign. Our goal is to get 1000 friends to join our Facebook group (Joseph Spina III DMD Family and Cosmetic Dentistry). If we meet our goal, we will donate $1000 to CHF. We hope to accomplish this goal be May 16, 2009. This is the date of the annual fund raising dinner dance that is being held in Newtown Square, PA. Information about Children’s Heart Foundation as well as information about the dinner can be found on www.childrensheartfoundation.org.
Please join us in making the goal

We are a Mercury Free Office

We are a mercury free office. None of our restorations contain mercury or lead based chemicals. As many of you know, the use of dental amalgam (silver fillings) has recently been banned or is about to be banned in several European countries. As I understand the regulations, no new amalgam fillings can be placed. This step was taken because of concerns about mercury in the filling material. The American Dental Association’s official position on the subject is that dental amalgam is safe to use in new restorations, and that existing amalgam fillings have never been linked to any systemic health issues.

Cerinate Lumineers are here!

Dr. Spina is proud to offer Cerinate Lumineers to his patients and is excited to be one of the few cosmetic dentists on the main line to be certified in the placement of Cerinate Lumineers. Lumineers are a specific type of porcelain veneer that can be used to change the color, shape, and alignment of your front teeth to achieve the smile you have always wanted. The advantage of Cerinate Lumineers is that they require little or no tooth reduction and no painful injection is used.
